The Western/ Sci-fi mash up Cowboys and Aliens departs the top 10 along with Horrible Bosses which has had a phenomenal run since I first reviewed it months ago – replacing them is the drama One Day and the universally panned Taylor Lautner star vehicle Abduction.

Regardless of the efforts of Twilight masses, Abduction couldn’t push Friends with benefits out of first place after all and only secured a third place spot – it’s possible that this could be attributed to poor critical reception that swayed the opinions of the average cinema goer but then again Hollywood can sure be hollyweird at times.

Oddly enough, despite the Lion King 3D keeping top spot on the American charts, Disney’s seminal hit never made it to first place at all since landing on South African shores just over a month ago proving that local audiences may not be the biggest fans of the 3D treatment after all.

Releasing this week is amongst many others is The Smurfs. The Smurfs hit American cinemas a while ago and has had a super performance, no doubt appealing to younger audiences. With a massive publicity campaign from Ster-Kinekor it would hardly be surprising to see The Smurfs making big bank here in SA.
