There was no doubt that Madagascar was going to do well, but I don’t think anyone anticipated the racket it would cause on the charts.
| 1 | MADAGASCAR 3 |
| 2 | SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN |
| 3 | WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING |
| 4 | MEN IN BLACK 3 |
| 5 | PROMETHEUS |
| 6 | THE AVENGERS |
| 7 | THINK LIKE A MAN |
| 8 | THE LUCKY ONE |
| 9 | THE VOW |
| 10 | BATTLESHIP |
As usual, Madagascar and it’s animal antics won the hearts of the masses one by one which can only mean one thing, another sequel is inevitably on the way. What is most peculiar is how Prometheus plummeted to 5th place from a strong 1st position, my only guess is that people went in expecting Alien but got something they didn’t want, and as it turns out, word of mouth usually kills movies as opposed to poor critical reception. Snow White once again manages to maintain a second place (sometimes you’re winning even when you aren’t playing), with the latest romcom What to Expect shooting up to 3rd place while the other films of its ilk sit in the lower ranks, just waiting to get the boot.
Make no mistake, Mad Buddies is going to blow away the competition.
Madagascar’s success will be short lived however as Leon Schuster’s latest film Mad Buddies releases nationwide on Friday which unsurprisingly will decimate the competition and most likely land itself on the all time highest grossing list to boot. It’s a pretty monumental movie though as it marks the first Schuster film under the Disney (also astounding is how Disney is attached when it’s rated 10 for mature content…I guess money does speak louder than curse words after all!). Also releasing is the box office bomb LOL starring Miley Cyrus, if it does as well here as it did in the states, it’ll be some kind of miracle.
