Here’s a preview for this weekends films. Hopefully this will give you a little headstart on your movie plans come Friday.This weeks releases: Cowboys and Aliens, Retribution, Sammy’s Adventures, and Monte Carlo. You’ll find some descriptions as well as accompanying trailers. Enjoy…


Cowboys and Aliens

Director: Jon Favreau

Cast: Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde

Based on the graphic novel of the same title. A nameless gunman (Daniel Craig) with no recollection of his past journeys to the town called Absolution with a mysterious bangle shackled to his arm. Absolution – a place where the townsfolk live in fear and the law is upheld by the ruthless “Colonel Dolarhyde”. Little did they know that a fear like no other was yet to come. In 1873, aliens will meet cowboys in a battle of supernatural proportions and only the stranger who the town had once cast out is their only salvation against these oppressors from the sky.

Retribution is an original South African thriller. A retired judge leaves his family to live in a secluded wilderness cabin to write his memoirs. By chance, the former judge comes across a seemingly lost hiker, and seeking refuge, offers him shelter for the night. What transpires is anything but coincidence as the hiker has a hidden agenda that links the two strangers to a murder case that the judge had presided over in the past. Vengeance is the order of the day in retribution when the judge’s daughter is scheduled to pay a visit that very night.


Sammy’s adventures: The Secret Passage

Cast: Melanie Griffith, Isabelle Fuhrman and Yuri Lowenthal

Sammy’s Adventures is 3D animated film which stars Sammy the turtle as he embarks on a 50 year life voyage. From the trauma of birth to an adulthood that takes place across all the oceans in the world, Sammy makes colourful friends along the way as he searches for his mate, Shelly. The journey isn’t easy though – encounters with humans, pollution, and separation are some of the challenges that Sammy will have to face if he is to find the secret passage to the ice waters.


Monte Carlo

Director: Thomas Bezucha

Cast: Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy

Grace (Selena Gomez) has just graduated from high school, what’s her next step? A dream trip toParis. Using their savings, Grace, her best friend (Emma) along with Grace’s step-sister, leave for a tour ofParisbut they got more than they bargained for. A case of mistaken identity turns a disappointing tour into a superstar adventure as grace takes the persona of Cordelia – a British heiress – due to a shared uncanny resemblance. What ensues is a high society romp filled with extravagancies, paparazzi, fairytale romance and aMonte Carloadventure but how long can they keep up this façade?
