Previews: This Weekends Movies (26 August)

Hi Pals!

It’s Monday…I know it’s a bit of a buzz kill given that the amazing weekend just passed but I’m sure these previews will bring your spirits up in anticipation for this weekends major releases! A bit of mixed bag this time around – The expected blockbuster, a romantic comedy, drama, and a classic Disney animation reborn are here for your perusal.

__________

Conan The Barbarian (3D)

Director: Marcus Nispel

Stars: Jason Momoa, Ron Perlman and Rose McGowan

This is not the Schwarzenegger/“director” Conan that you remember – This is a reboot of the cult fantasy franchise. A young Conan loses everything when raiders attack his home. The boy grows into a man and hunts down the warlord “Zym” who destroyed his village and murdered his family. On his path of vengeance, Conan faces many evils, battling henchman, monsters and witches. If you have an inclination for heaps of violence and mayhem displayed in stereoscopic 3D, this might be your fix for getting the blood pumping.

Crazy Stupid Love

Directors: Glenn Ficarra, John Requa

Stars: Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore

Cal (Steve Carell) and Emily (Julianne Moore) are living the dream – great house, great family, and a great job. Obviously it’s not great enough because Emily springs a divorce proposal causing Cal to emotionally unravel. Where didCalgo wrong? Enter Jacob (Ryan Gosling) – A bachelor who specialises in transforming bar ladies into bed buddies- and he’s here to help Cal reclaim his manhood, and believe me,Calneeds all the help that he can get. Prepare yourself for a love triangle like no other in this romantic comedy that’s here to tell us that the idea of the soul mate isn’t an illusion.

A Better Life

Director: Chris Weitz

Stars: Demián Bichir, José Julián and Eddie ‘Piolin’ Sotelo

Carlos (Demián Bichir) is Hispanic immigrant who works as a gardener inLos Angeles. He loves his son (José Julián) and only wishes to provide him with the future that he himself never had. A Better Life shows how one man’s love for his son will drive him to further himself in a country that puts the odds against him. There will be trials along the way that will test the bonds of their love for one another. Let’s hope that they can survive those tests and make their American dream a reality.

The Lion King (3D)

Directors: Roger Allers, Rob Minkoff

Stars: Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons and James Earl Jones

A 3D re-envisioning of the 1994 Disney classic. You all know the story by now by now – A treacherous brother plots to kill the king and tricks the crown prince Simba into leaving the throne on the pretence of Simba’s actions resulting in the death of his father. Simba wonders in exile for years making new friends along the way but returns to his kingdom on news that his uncle has claimed the throne and rules it with an iron fist.

So, any of these releases getting you pumped for the weekend? From my side, you can expect a few reviews including one for the Hitchcock classic “PSYCHO” that you voted for (rather unanimously at that) in my facebook poll. I’ve also got a few editorial pieces planned for the coming weeks which I hope will keep things fresh.

The new poll is also up on the In The Kan facebook page – the next classic review is from the genre “Cult Classic Science-Fiction”…interesting right? Check the poll out here and make your voice heard > http://on.fb.me/oAL7pp

Is there any other sort of content you would like to see on In The Kan? Speak your mind in the comment box.

Lastly, just have a great week and I wish you the best in kicking Monday’s ass!
