Sylvester Stallone and Walter Hill team up for this comic-book balderdash adapted from a French graphic novel. Walter Hill outfits the narrative with an ethnically diverse cast and soaks it in the thick noir of New Orleans but despite some redeeming qualities, the trashy and predictable plot sinks from the weight of action-man clichés; one-dimensional characters; outrageously weak B-grade dialogue and ludicrous stereotypes.

The Flowers of War DVD Review

I had heard that Flowers of War, the war movie based on the fall of Nanking, was less than entertaining when it was showing on the big screen. As a result, I gave it a miss. When it arrived in my pile of DVDs to review, I left it till last, thinking it was going to be pretty bad. I reluctantly popped it into my DVD player today, but contrary to what I’d heard, by the end of the movie I was pleasantly surprised.

Iron Man 3 is the biggest release in the Marvel slate for this year and their flagship franchise after The Avengers (at least in monetary terms). Iron Man 2 left a bitter sweet taste – it was a cool film but relied on the superhero formula far too strictly, but with a new director and writer for the final entry in the (presumably first) trilogy, does the series end on a high note?
