Oz The Great and Powerful…the silent pause is the concern that I have for the future of this Wizard of Oz prequel. The premise sounds interesting enough: a small time magician (James Franco) gets transported to the land of Oz right into the thick of a turf war between the three witches (Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams). Enticing the production further is the participation of Sam Raimi who is taking the director’s chair, alarming but unsurprising however is Tim Burton who is on board as producer.
I can only hope that this doesn’t turn out to be another Alice in Wonderland, but by the looks of things, Oz is already is on it’s way there. One element that does have me hooked in a way is the usage of the original Academy standard aspect ratio at the start of the trailer, I sincerely hope that they include that touch for the black and white scenes that kick off the film.
