This week must break some sort of record for trailer releases – over the past few days we’ve seen The Watch, Dredd, Monsters University, and Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2, now lets look at the rest:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
It looks like Nickelodeon is making a conscious effort to revive the TMNT franchise and mold it in the image of the original 80′s cartoon. As an 80′s kid that grew up on cheesy Saturday morning cartoons, this revival has piqued my interest – I don’t think it could live up to the legacy and for all we know it might bomb out but it might just be the next best thing since The Next Mutation…okay I couldn’t type that with a straight face.
Hotel Transylvania
For a moment forget the fact that Adam Sandler is involved with this film as Dracula, the story itself looks like it has potential especially in how it shows a more comedic side to the horror icons of yesteryear. More importantly (at least for me) is that Genndy Tartakovsky has returned as director – you may not know Tartakovsky but you do know his work – namely The Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack cartoon series to name but two. His strengths are in story, cinematography and offbeat humour so it stands to reason that this film may be something special.
Hotel Transylvania releases 28 September – it’s directed by Genndy Tartakovsky and stars the voice cast of Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Andy Samberg.
Taken 2
It astounds me that even at his age, Liam Neeson is still hot property as an action hero – maybe even more so than he was in his younger years. It would be hard to find someone who wouldn’t relish the opportunity to see Neeson as a badass again and again so Taken 2 looks to be another treat. Just as you would expect, the film follows the formula of bad guys take good guys stuff, good guy goes on a blood-bathed rampage wiping out legions of goons before rescuing his things and dispatching his enemy to hell – sounds like fun to me!
Taken 2 hits screens on 12 October – it is directed by Olivier Megaton and stars Liam Neeson, Famke Janssen and Maggie Grace.
Celeste and Jesse Forever
Forever looks to follow in the footsteps of the latest run of romantic comedies that have a specific gimmick in mind ala Friends with Benefits etc. Judging from the trailer it seems like it doesn’t quite fulfill on either the rom or com very much but who can pass up a chance to see Andy Samberg doing his thing right?
Celeste and Jesse Forever has yet to receive a local release date. The film stars Lee Toland Krieger and stars Andy Samberg, Elijah Wood and Emma Roberts.
